Allow Piercings in Public Schools

Just because a student is in public school does not mean they have to give up their constitutional right to express themself. Body piercings are not harmful to fellow students, nor are they a "distraction", nor are they hindering the education process. If a student has a piercing, it does not automatically mean they are involved in gangs, doing drugs, or skipping school. It means they are expressing themselves and being comfortable in their own body. As such, even though most of the students in public schools are minors, they still have the right to express themselves, and should not be afraid of being punished for doing so.

Teachers and administrators should focus more on poor attendance, drug use, and cell phone/mp3 player use instead of a small stud in a student's nose, lip, or ear. As long as a student takes proper care of their piercing(s) and is, in general, a good student, they should be permitted to have their piercing(s). Schools should have specific guidelines permitting piercings. For example, if a student maintains a GPA of 2.0, they are allowed to have a certain number of facial and ear piercings. If their GPA falls below the required level, the student must remove their piercing(s) until the grades are bought back up.
