Amend NC Child Fatality Law To Authorize Disclosure
Public disclosure of DSS case files in child abuse fatality cases facilitates the discovery of systemic problems that contributed to the child's death. This information is crucial in helping to prevent child abuse & fatalities from occurring in the future.
By signing this petition, I am calling on my NC State Representative & NC State Senator to help end child abuse by amending N.C. GS 7b-2902 Child Fatality Law in order to allow the public access to a child's actual DSS case file (rather than only a summary, which is all that is required under the current law). This amendment could be modeled after California's amended law SB-39, which authorizes such public disclosures.
