Animal-Friendly Laws in Irvine

The Irvine City Council is about to vote on three animal-friendly ordinances that, if passed, will make Irvine one of California's most humane cities.

As the vote draws closer, we need your support to:

1.  PROHIBIT PET STORE SALES OF PUPPIES AND KITTENS that fuel the puppy mill and kitten factory industries, as well as contribute to the unnecessary euthanasia of countless shelter animals at substantial taxpayer expense.

2.  DISCOURAGE ANIMAL CRUELTY AT ORANGE COUNTY'S GREAT PARK by banning rodeos and circuses using wild and exotic animals, as both cause performing animals to be abused and/or neglected.

3.  HOLD OWNERS FINANCIALLY ACCOUNTABLE FOR REPEATED PET IMPOUNDMENTS by requiring them to spay or neuter their pet(s) upon the third impoundment.  (Exceptions will be granted for pets that cannot safely undergo the procedure due to age or health concerns.)

Recently, cities in California and other states have succeeded in passing local laws to ban pet store sales.   Desperate to stem the tide, the U.S. Pet Industry and lobbyists that fight its battles, have redoubled their efforts against humane legislation and specifically targeted Irvine (from their East Coast offices).  As a result, we are now even more determined to make certain that Irvine law reflects the values of its residents--NOT the U.S. Pet Industry.

Tell the Irvine City Council that animal matters matter and ASK THEM TO PASS THESE ANIMAL-FRIENDLY ORDINANCES.
