STOP SB 250 The Pet Owner Punishment Act

There is a special bond between people and their pets. This bond has developed over centuries and if you are loved by a special animal in your life, you know what I am talking about. However, throughout the nation there are organizations sponsoring legislation that restricts our rights as pet owners. One of these pieces of legislation is California Senate Bill 250-- it would make it illegal to own an unaltered dog or allow an unaltered cat to roam.

Mandatory spay/neuter laws do not work. They backfire, causing an increase in shelter impounds and intakes and killing more animals through euthanasia. Mandatory spay/neuter laws target and discriminate against low income families and fixed income seniors. Those who can afford it, do it. If an owner cannot afford the mandated surgery, they have only one option-- surrender their family pet to the shelter where it will be killed. There is no successful example of mandatory spay/neuter either as policy or penalty. Everywhere MSN has been implemented, there has been an increase in animal deaths and a huge increase in operational expenses. Statistics of shelter information throughout California show a more rapid decline of animal deaths in communities WITHOUT mandatory spay/neuter in comparison to those with MSN. Stop the killing of owned pets! Stop mandatory spay/neuter bills. STOP SB 250!
