Leona: Support the Beginning Farmers
When Leona Dombrowsky, our Provincial Ag. Minister, provided financial assistance to struggling hog farmers in February 2008 she made mistakes and used old data and thereby provided significant dollars to dead and retired farmers and bankrupt companies while young beginning farmers received next to nothing or nothing at all. The young-beginning farmers of Ontario have pleaded with Leona since February 2008 requesting her to treat all farmers fairly but she has repeatedly refused. Hog farmers in Ontario have been struggling with low hog prices and high feed costs since early 2007. Then in April 2009, when hog farmers thought the worst was behind them, the media misnamed an influenza and called it %u201CSwine-Flu.%u201D This mistake has been utterly devastating to the price of hogs and is causing untold pain to the family hog farms of Ontario. So far, Leona and the Ontario Liberals have done nothing to assist the family farm through these tough times. As we, the beginning hog farmers, did not receive the same support as established farms in February 2008 we today have a major disadvantage and are currently battling off creditors from taking away everything we have%u2026our animals, our farms, and our homes.
Please sign our petition to request Leona Dombrowsky to stop ignoring the family farms in Ontario that are in dire straits.
