ETHS Freshman Restructuring Proposal

D202 Superintendent Dr. Eric Witherspoon has made a recommendation to the School Board to restructure the freshman experience at Evanston Township High School. The proposal eliminates the straight honors track for freshman Humanities and Biology classes. Students will earn honors credit by "fulfilling the requirements of multiple assessments."

The Board will vote on the proposal on Monday, December 13th.

We, the undersigned parents and community members, urge the D202 School Board not to make any decisions related to the proposal to eliminate the honors-only sections in Freshman Humanities until there has been an analysis of the data from the 3-year evaluation period begun in September 2008.

We believe that the D202 School Board should honor the promise made to the community of a three-year evaluation before making changes that will impact 80% of the freshman class. We suggest they wait to vote on this proposal until the Fall of 2011 when all the data is available, analyzed and reported to the Board in the annual School Report Card update.
