Help stop the killing of kangaroos in Canberra, Australia

The ACT Government's annual cull of more than 1,600 kangaroos was set to start on May 14, and last for the next three months.

However, the killing has been suspended after animal activists delayed the start of the cull after launching legal action.

The government says the cull is done now to avoid the time when females have large joeys. Most joeys at this time are small and unfurred. Last year, 355 "pouch young" were killed - by a blow to the head, not shooting - in addition to the 1149 culled.

The government also says the cull is necessary to prevent overgrazing while protecting 'sensitive flora' located in parks and nature reserves around the Australian capital.

However, animal activists are calling on the government to consider non-lethal alternatives to manage the kangaroo population.  Alternative measures include birth control, relocation, and other non-lethal solutions.

Please sign the petition to demand the ACT Government uses alternative measures to control the kangaroo population around Canberra. Demand no cull of the ACT kangaroos.
