End the killing, provide humanitarian aid, free the hostages!

As Jews, we’re frankly horrified at what is happening in the Middle East. All of it.

First, we’re shocked by the atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7 – the killing of more than 1200 Israelis, a brutal slaughter replete with torture and rape. And we’re appalled that over 100 Israelis remain hostage in Gaza – what suffering they must be enduring!

At the same time, we are horror-struck by Israel’s response: We understand Israel’s goal of overthrowing the Hamas regime. But Israel has unleashed an indiscriminate blood-letting in which 32,000 Gazans have been killed to date, the majority of whom were innocent civilians uninvolved in the attack. The bombs have utterly devastated homes and infrastructure in the Gaza Strip, and now Israel is blocking the entry of critical food and medical supplies, even though Gazan hospitals are barely functioning and the population is on the verge of starvation.

We think Senator Schumer was absolutely right in calling Prime Minister Netanyahu one of the main obstacles to peace, and we applaud his courage in doing so.

Clearly – unequivocally – a ceasefire must be immediately declared and, yes, it must be tied to Hamas’s release of all the hostages. No more delays!

The U.S. gives huge amounts of military aid to Israel, even one-ton bombs that should never have been used in the densely populated Gaza Strip. This alone should convince the U.S. that at this stage Israel should be receiving defensive weapons only.

President Biden, you have an opportunity to be a peacemaker for the good of both peoples and the world. We’re here to let you know that there are many Jews who support you in taking the only morally justifiable stance: ending the killing, facilitating humanitarian aid, and bringing both sides together to negotiate a political solution.

We are concerned Jews who care deeply about the welfare of both Israelis and Palestinians, and are shocked by the moral catastrophe taking place. It must end!
