Backyard Chickens in Wanamingo City Limits

We have had our backyard chickens for 2 years. We moved to Wanamingo in August of 2021 with our 3 hens. Immediately a fence was installed to allow our animals free range within the confines of our fence. We have found out that the city does not allow chickens whatsoever within city limits. These are 3 female chickens. They make no more noise than a barking dog. They have never bit anyone. They are 3 harmless, flightless birds that the city has a problem with. There are numerous benefits to having backyard chickens. They’re great therapy animals. They provide food. They leave behind great fertilizer. Chickens are excellent pest controllers. Did you know chickens can sense emotions? Chickens have empathy! Please sign this position to present to the city council that the citizens of Wanamingo want change!
