Community Organizing & Resource Support

This is really a Social Service topic - but I am addressing this "Politically".

I have written an essay about some of the social problems that are common in many communities and I wanted to offer some suggestions on solutions for people in government jobs, to be able to work towards changing the current environment and the policies around certain populations and the how those issues affect your community.

Hello,

[Old Article I wrote]
IMPORTANT ESSAY: I wrote this a while ago for a different project and wanted to reinstate this here.

I'd like to send this open letter out into the world: Hello - I would just like to mention that with all of the money that is generated in the world, there are so many social issues that should absolutely not be social issues any longer. There are some fields and some careers where people are consistently making tons of money. No one loses out on that and people are still able to manage businesses, organize their communities, fund their education - etc. But still... There is homelessness. There are barriers to basic health care. There are people stuck making minimum wage when it should have been raised to be double what it is, a long ass time ago...

This B.S. has been killing people.

IT IS SO OPPRESSIVE. THIS MAKES NO SENSE TO ME AND NEVER WILL. BUT I HOPE PEOPLE REALIZE HOW EASY IT WOULD BE TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION TO ALMOST ALL SOCIAL PROBLEMS IF THERE WEREN'T SO MANY GREEDY CAPITALIST MONSTERS IN POLITICS THAT CHOOSE NOT TO FIX THESE PROBLEMS & CREATE UNNECESSARY ISSUES BECAUSE OF THEIR UNFAIR IDEOLOGIES. IT'S COMMON SENSE AND A LITTLE EXTRA EFFORT. AND A LITTLE, "THIS COULD BE YOUR FAMILY MEMBER" TYPE OF EMPATHY TO JUST PROVIDE BASIC SOLUTIONS TO OBVIOUS ISSUES.  [Like really omg, - ]

HONESTLY JUST PERPETUATING MORE PROBLEMS!

And also irresponsible politicians - that for the positions they are in - people on your own side, people you depend on - are stabbing you in the back. They are betraying the agendas they publicize and are not working towards making many of the changes they claim to stand by. It's a lot of performative bull to get support, and then we basically stay waiting... cause we have to keep talking about it. People need to delegate better. Keeping problems around doesn't mean you keep your job. That doesn't even make any sense.

Please think progressively. There are so many things people could do to make access to education more affordable, [more opportunities for Grants and Scholarships], to make their communities better, to create all sorts of new opportunities for people... but people are greedy as f_____, they live beyond their means, and they hold out on people. I will never try to take money away from people who have earned their living, that is not what I'm saying. I am simply drawing attention to the fact that there is a shit ton of money out there, and some people will always be making a shit ton of money - So let's put some of that into a new purpose, and seriously eradicate social problems that do. not. need. to. be. Problems. any. longer.

So who do we speak to about this?

Solution: Local Community Organizers, Mayors, State Politicians, National Level Leaders who facilitate the eligibility process for money & resources. Take it upon yourself and create a fundraiser. Buy a table and chairs and set up an event where you can provide resources to people who need them. Write up a brochure listing all of the non - profit organizations around where people can get what they need.

Who can we write to, what can we propose?

Solution: Write to your local community leaders. Your state government leaders - Senators, & Governors. Write up an essay or a proposed outline for a plan suggesting what is needed to reform a problem and then ask for what you need to provide a solution to it.

Start a Fundraiser: gofundme.com

There is no reason for there not to be more organizations established that specifically service at-risk communities and underrepresented populations where people are in need of shelter, food, and health care.

[A place where they can clean up and not have to "register" somewhere to do it?] In cities where homelessness is a real issue - there should be designated parks or shelter areas available to them now with access to showers - like there is just no reason for people to be out on the streets anymore. There's enough money out there to fix these problems, people need to utilize part of their budget to address these needs. Set up a new system. I know there are many social service organizations out there - but homelessness is still a problem - and still lower income families and middle income families struggle with keeping up with their living needs and keeping insurance for their health care needs. - Obtaining Health Care should be made a simple process. Some people are a lot closer to homelessness than you realize! There are a lot of people barely making it out there living paycheck to paycheck - hourly wage and salaries need a serious boost for people to be able to take better care of themselves for real! It's crazy - and seriously unfair.

Also - I know the issue with this is that people think that to help these populations, you need to keep them contained:

I really don't think that's necessary, but it may provide the best solution for people to make a transition back into society - and it is completely possible for people to create new organizations that address all of these people's issues and the barriers they face trying to afford basic living essentials - by specifically focusing on how to provide a way for them to be eligible for certain resources, helping them apply for jobs, assisting them with their taxes, assisting them with their health care needs  - where they can be part of their communities in an independent way. Start a new process for people who are "unidentified". Create a new way to identify them and help them become a working member of society - even if that means they are only working for a non - profit that has been organized to help their very population = homeless people.

People should not be criminalized for being homeless. Also, work to build low income housing opportunities that are managed through those organizations so there can be accountability for who they are providing for. Where people are indefinitely taken care of, they qualify because they need it the most - and they can prove their eligibility.

Speak out locally to business owners and / or  local leaders, like a Mayor for example, to discuss these kinds of issues to see what can be done. Unless there are other health issues or mental health issues that require different attention, we should establish a way for people to be a working part of society, and to live independently, if they are able to work and have the skills to do so.

□ It's the government's responsibility to take care of their citizens.

Cities, States - speak up for your people in need.

□ Work to provide resources for the people that need them. I always try to think about it in a way where I question what I would do if everything was taken away from me - and that is why it's so important to support government organizations such as Social Services and Welfare Services - and all Non - Profit organizations that provide assistance & shelter, and make people who are in need a priority. It's community organizing. It's extra effort from a few individuals. It's being a good humanitarian, to care and to want to clean up and help people who are struggling with not having enough of what they need. It's not hard, people just need more resources. And it will clean up your environment! No one's life should be at risk because they can't afford enough to survive - There are people out there and places / space available - out there to help and we just need to provide more of them - and use them efficiently. People need to help each other. [I'm sorry this is written with such frustration - I am just so sick of watching people take advantage of others when they have all the ability and access to make things better. It is so discouraging.]

There may be people out there taking advantage - but you'd be surprised at how many 'well off' people are more often the ones taking advantage of people in need and keeping them down, being careless & greedy, rather than poor people lying about things to get more resources. And, keep track - there is only so much you can get through social service organizations anyway. It starts at the top - and people in positions of political authority need to work together with businesses to come up with a new budget to allocate needed resources to people in need.

Make it a new business plan.  I understand there needs to be a process to obtain shelter and needed living items - and resources are scarce, I understand - I see how people are and also how they hold out - But sometimes the very organizations that are working for people that are eligible or are in need of their resources, make it a lot harder than it needs to be and are directly working against the very populations they should be serving. It can actually become very oppressive and we shouldn't be keeping things like that.

Accountability is important. Communication is important. I know there are good people out there - so people need to come together, communicate, plan and work together to make sure that at-risk populations, and poor populations are able to get what they need to take care of themselves - and get them off the street!

Things are so cheap. It's so easy to make a box of stuff from the dollar store or Walmart and provide these things to people. It's really not much.

Go Big - Do Bulk!

It's hard out there even for people that do make "enough" money. Societies need to change. They need "reform".  Leadership needs to change. We need a new strategy to combat some of these problems in the world. We need better use of resources - there are so many upgrades and new things out there - for so affordable now, Use Them! And get them to people in need. Keep your environments clean. I hope this reaches the right people & they see the need to get involved.

Thanks for listening!

Survival Box Ideas:

People should not be criminalized for being homeless.

- Take Action.
□ Things are so cheap. It's so easy to make a box of stuff from the dollar store or Walmart and provide these things to people. It's not that hard!

□ Go Big - Do Bulk

□ Tents / Sleeping Bags / Pillows / Suitcases / BackPack = harder items

□ Watch / Compass / Cards = harder items

□ Packs of Water / Reusable Water Bottles

□ Shampoo & Conditioner

□ Body Wash / Face Wash

□ Towels / Wash Cloths

□ Lotion

□ Q - Tips

□ Nail Clippers / Nail File

□ Plastic gloves

□ Toothbrushes / Mouthwash

□ Deodorant

□ Razors

□ Brush / Comb

□ Travel Case

□ Antibacterial Soap

□ Duct Tape / Safety Pins

□ Lighter / Matches

□ Flashlight [ batteries ] - SOLAR STUFF

Note: It sucks and can be embarrassing when you are in a position to need some of this assistance yourself, when it's just hard to find a job in general - I understand. People at the top of their fields with the authority, that know better, have great jobs and steady income - and access, need to recognize how much of a need it really is - and that if they communicate and get support from people it's not too hard to get something together.

There is so much waste out there, and there are a lot of organizations that would be willing to work with businesses & [people who would like to make donations] to keep extra things that are not sold or expired, things that are still good or useful. Because ultimately they will be the ones who have the authority to provide funds and organize for these kinds of efforts.

Suggestion: Build a park, a shelter area with public bathrooms and showers - specifically designed & relocated for these homeless populations (with tents and tarps) to move into, until they decide to register for benefits and shelter elsewhere or other... Just make a new designated area for people to go.
