The stretch of Manhattan Avenue between Metropolitan and Meeker contains a school (PS 132) an after school program, multiple small business and an active community! What it doesn't have, is anything to control the traffic. There are no traffic signals to slow traffic for five blocks and there are multiple areas with blind corners.
Since I have lived near the intersection of Manhattan and Skillman I have been witness to at least 20 accidents and daily I see near misses. The biggest concern though, is that when these accidents occur the cars often end up on the sidewalks and have even hit homes. Pedestrian have been hit before and have been lucky to escape any serious injuries. BUT, waiting until someone is killed is not the right answer!! This area needs a traffic signal to slow down the cars and to create a safe place for the kids and the community.
Please sign this petition for a safer community and be part of the committee that makes this happen.
This petition will be shared and delivered to the community board.
