I'm Eric, and I started I Love Every Dog because I believe every single dog counts, not just the lucky ones. That's exactly why the case out of Edmonton, Kentucky, has stuck with me all week.
On August 26, Kentucky State Police announced that more than two hundred dogs had been removed from a property in Metcalfe County. The dogs were found dehydrated, malnourished, and suffering from internal parasites, and at least one had a broken leg that had gone untreated. Michael W. York, 34, and Natasha N. York, 35, were charged, but only with animal cruelty and failing to vaccinate the dogs for rabies.
Two hundred dogs. Think about that number for a second. This wasn't one dog that slipped through the cracks of a struggling household. This was a property-wide operation that let two hundred animals suffer, possibly for months. The charges filed so far don't reflect the scale of what investigators found.
I'm asking the Metcalfe County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office to review every one of these cases individually, pursue the most serious charges Kentucky law allows for large-scale, sustained neglect, and seek a lifetime ban on the Yorks ever owning or breeding animals again.
Two hundred dogs can't file a police report. They can't tell a jury what it felt like to go without food or clean water for as long as they did. All they have is the people who found them, and now, hopefully, people like you.
