Stratford needs a park in which practitioners of Parkour can use freely. We need something such as the parks apearing more and more in Europe. These parks are similar to most jungle-gyms but have one slight difference. They are made to be traversed in an unusual way, a way that promotes intense phsical activity and a healthy, active life.
The dicipline of Parkour was created in the mid 1980's by a french man named David Belle. The main concept is to make your way from point A to point B in the fastest and most fluid manner. So basically; running, jumping, vaulting, and rolling. As David stated in a documentary regarding le Parkour, "le parkour has always existed, free running has always been there, the thing is that no one gave it a name, we didn't put it in the box." This dicipline quickly made its way onto the internet through videos posted on youtube.com and various other social media websites. Since parkour was "Put in a box" it has inspired millions of people to go outside, have fun, stay healthy and be free.
A park designated to Parkour and Parkour related activites would not only keep practitioners fit, but it would be a first in southwestern Ontario. Stratford would be the only city in the area with a designated Parkour park. Imagine how many people would come from say Kitchener, London, maybe even Toronto to join in the fun. Depending on it's location the park could also spark more activity in our beautiful downtown. It could also keep Parkour practitioners from climbing on things less suitable like buildings or businesses.
