No Weekend Exams at Newcastle University
This is for anyone who has had exams scheduled on the weekend, or anyone who is against it in principle. Also anyone who has night exams (6-9 PM).
The university is claiming they are providing flexibility, and that the changing demographic of students means having exams at night and on the weekends better suits different peoples lifestyles.
This is all very well, apart from the fact that they never actually consulted students abo...ut the scheduling, or asked anyone whether weekend exams worked for them individually before arbitrarily assigning them to one.
We've paid our fees, we deserve to be able to sit our exams during the week like everyone else, and not be stuck in a study hall during our precious and oh-so-brief weekends.
This isn't just a group to have a gripe and then go anyway, we intend to lobby the university to reschedule all weekend exams, or at least commit to never scheduling them again in subsequent exam periods.
We'll be promoting a boycott of weekend exams, as well as other actions to let the administration know this isnt on
We the undersigned students of Newcastle University would like to request an end to the scheduling of exams on weekends and during the night.
Students schedules allow very little time for rest and relaxation, which are vital elements of leading healthy balanced lives during the study year.
The scheduling of exams on the weekend and during the night means students are being denied this vital time outside of normal university hours, and in many cases will have to reschedule work and other commitments.
If the university is truly committed to flexible timetabling and consultation, we would like to see actual consultation with students about thier exam timetables.
