This petition is to encourage the US government to make food stamps available to those who are unemployed. Just because people are unemployed doesn't mean they are lazy. Perhaps they can not find a job because there are not enough jobs available in their areas or surrounding areas. Perhaps individuals have to be unemployed just to care for their loved ones and they are not getting paid for it. Why should the benefits only go to people who have children?
My sister, who is not married nor has any children, is unemployed because she has to be a caregiver to our elderly grandparents who are both invalid. Our elderly grandparents have to be watched 24/7 and she does not get paid for it. We all have to chip in to buy her food. She can not be qualified for food stamps because she has no children.
And how about college students who are unemployed? Maybe they can not get a job yet because they are in the process of getting their degrees and/or training to get a job! College students are needy too. They need to eat to function well in school.
