Let Cancer Patients Wear Hats to School

My name is Chloe Terpenning, I'm 15 years old and go to West Burlington High School. I was diagnosed with Hodgskins Lymphoma March 2, 2017. I completed all of my treatments July 5, 2017.

I lost my hair because of it, and I was bullied because of my hair loss. I wear/wore wigs, scarfs, and caps. I transferred schools because I was constantly getting threatened, harassed, bullied because of me having cancer and my hair loss. Recently, I've became comfortable going to school without my wig because they give me constant headaches and make me lose hair. On 11/30/17, I went to school without a wig and with my hood half way up and was never told to take it down.

The next day, I did the same thing but was sent home because I refused to take it down and when I said I wasn't completely comfortable yet, I was told, "I do not care about your comfort, it's school policy."

Keep in mind, before I registered for this school they told me and my mother I could wear a hat when I was ready.

On 12/6/17 I wore a beanie, only to get sent to the office before getting the chance to go to class. 12/7/17 they came up with a "equal agreement" claiming that after Christmas break I cannot wear any type of head gear or else I will have to sit in the office again.

I want to put an end to this policy for myself and any future cancer patients. Please sign my petition to ask West Burlington High School to allow cancer patients to wear hats.
