This is a pledge to boycott Crystal Geyser products if the company moves forward with a beverage bottling plant near Mount Shasta, California.
Written on behalf of citizens in Mount Shasta, California. Crystal Geyser is attempting to open a beverage bottling plant near our town. There are a few powerful people in the local government who have allowed this project to proceed against the will of many citizens.
We need help from people who love Mount Shasta to amplify our voices. Crystal Geyser has agreed to allow an Environmental Impact Review and the deadline is approaching to submit public comments.
Citizens of Mount Shasta are against this project for many reasons: It would create undesired physical disturbances including: "traffic dangers, noise, smells, and vibration." Also, this project is antithetical to the ethics and culture of our city. Mount Shasta is a place where people from all around the world come for spiritual retreat, the waters are considered sacred and should be protected, not exploited and we as a town do not wish to contribute to the vast plastic waste created by a beverage bottling plant.
The few people that support this project have one reason. MONEY. On a base level they imagine the plant would create jobs for the community. Opponents to the project know that in reality Big Corporations often make big promises to small towns and don't deliver on them.
Some people also cite tax revenue as a reason to support the project, but we believe the hidden cost of allowing this plant to dump waste into our city sewer system, additional traffic issues, and other "unknown" cost would outweigh the perceived tax benefit.
There are other industries our community would welcome with open arms. A multinational corporation pumping untold gallons of precious water, adding a concoction of chemical flavorings, and shipping it all over the world using petroleum based plastic bottles and fossil fuel… Is not the kind of industry that we feel represents the culture and consciousness of our beloved town.
