Democrat John Tierney and Republican Richard Tisei are in competition for a seat in Congress. But that doesn't mean they can't agree to level the playing field by agreeing to a ban on outside ads.
Most voters realize the power that PACs have to influence or even steal an election. What maybe fewer people realize is that the ads may be scripted by people not even eligible to vote in the district! These "outside ads" have the power to rob voters of their local power!
Tierney and Tisei are in negotiations to ban outside ads from their campaign. Whatever their political differences, this would be a great favor to voters who would then cast their ballots based on candidate debates and public policies--rather than on the huge sums of cash flung by PACs.
Tell Tierney and Tisei they have a wonderful opportunity here to set an example to the rest of the world by rejecting outside ads and running a race with integrity. Tell them you support an outside-ad ban!
We the undersigned absolutely support you in agreeing to ban outside ads in your campaigns. Whatever your political differences, you can both campaign with integrity by stopping agents outside your district from influencing the outcome. You have a wonderful opportunity to campaign with integrity and to show the rest of the world that it can be done and that democracy can actually work as it is supposed to!
