Say No to Fake News as a Marketing Tool, Boycott A Cure for Wellness

20th Century Fox and Regency Enterprises, in order to promote the film A Cure for Wellness, created several fake news websites, Sacramento Dispatch, Salt Lake City Guardian, Houston Leader, NY Morning Post and the Indianapolis Gazette, and regularly published false news articles about real individuals that were widely shared by unsuspecting people and media outlets who thought the stories were real, including articles claiming Lady Gaga's Super Bowl halftime performance would be a tribute to Muslim, that the American Medical Association had classified "Trump Depressive Disorder" as a real illness, that President Trump had signed an executive order halting vaccinations, and that then candidate Donald Trump and Russian president Vladimir Putin had secretly met before the US presidential election.

In the current media environment where fake news is routinely created to deceive readers for clicks and ad revenue, and false and misleading information is regularly disseminated by the current administration, making it increasingly difficult for people to have confidence in either the media or the government, for a movie studio to actively create and disseminate fake news stories in order to promote a movie shows a shocking level of callousness and contempt for the public.

By signing this petition, you are sending the message to 20th Century Fox and Regency Enterprises that they should not use blatant, lying tactics in order to promote their entertainment products, and pledging to not go to theaters to see the film A Cure for Wellness.
