Tell Canadian Government Not to Approve Torture
In a new directive to the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), Public Safety Minister Vic Toews stated that it is acceptable to rely on information that "may have been derived from the use of torture or mistreatment."
According to Amnesty International Canada's secretary general Alex Neve, the new directive gives CSIS "the latitude to work with torturers. This does an end run around the absolute ban on torture."
The ambiguous language of the directive suggests that CSIS is now free to collude with regimes that torture, essentially providing a market for torturers.
Act now to tell Vic Toews to denounce torture and the use of information obtained by torture and abuse.
