Demand Justice for Dead Sweatshop Workers: Walmart Must Pay

On May 13th over 1,100 people lost their lives as the building they were working in collapsed. Hundreds were trapped in the debris and many died in the following days trapped and unable to escape. The world was shocked to see the carnage and many called for action to be taken to improve working conditions.

In light of the disaster the International Labor Organization (The UN labor organization) held a meeting with the brands that were purchasing goods from the facility. However, 20 of the brands involved didn't bother to show up to the meeting. Since the tragedy only one brand, Primark, has paid any compensation to the victims. The lagard brands Adler, Auchan, Benetton, C&A, Carrefour, Cato Corp, The Children’s Place, Dressbarn, Essenza, FTA International, Gueldenpfennig, Iconix Brand, Inditex, JC Penney, Kids Fashion Group, LPP, Mango, Manifattura Corona, NKD, Premier Clothing, PWT Group, Texman and Walmart, also continue to rely on virtual slave labor to manufacture their products.

Walmart is the single largest retailer in the world and they refused to go to a meeting to discuss how they could pay compensation and make amends for their part in this industry that is right out of a Charles Dickens story. Walmart needs to pay compensation for the deaths and destruction their products caused.

Dear Mr Duke,
On May 13th 2013 over 1,100 workers lost their lives in a factory manufacturing products directly linked to Walmart. Six months later, on September 11th, the International Labor Organization (The UN labor organization) held a meeting to discuss compensation as well as industry reform with the companies purchasing the goods that were being made.
Walmart refused to attend the meeting. Shame on your company and its leadership!
We the undersigned demand Walmart compensates the victims through an independent body such as the International Labor Organization.
Please do the right thing.
