Urge Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to Support Higher Education

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has a long history of maligning and harming our greatest institutions, our universities. In his latest effort to support campus carry, Abbott posted on Twitter on Oct. 1 that "most professors are already afraid to discuss the hard ideas. Many just regurgitate liberal dogma."

This isn't the first time. In Nov. 2016, Abbott threatened to cut funding to universities that vowed to protect DACA students. And, this past legislative session, the governor implemented university hiring freezes while supporting tuition freezes and deep budget cuts.

Abbott has made a habit of demeaning Texas institutions of higher education, even though we boast some of the best universities in the country. Rice, UT Austin, and Baylor all consistently rank at the top, and all are engaged in cutting edge, top tier research. Sign the petition to tell Abbott to treat our universities with the respect they deserve.
