In Florida,
a dog named Tara needed a new home. So she sat at an adoption clinic, waiting until the right people came along. Then, it seemed like her hopes had been met - a pair arrived and said they wanted to bring her home. Staff informed the pair that Tara would need "a little bit of medication" and,
according to the Brevard County sheriff's department, they allegedly said "No problem, we're going to take care of Tara."
Unfortunately, the opposite happened.
Not only did they not provide Tara with the medicines she needed - but they didn't even provide her with food. In fact, they starved Tara so severely that she became nothing more than skin and bones, and
nearly died.Sign the petition to demand that Florida authorities ban them from ever living with, owning, or working with animals in the future!When the dog's body was on the brink of death, the pair surrendered her to a family member, claiming there was "something wrong" with the dog. Luckily, the family member immediately recognized that poor Tara had been horrifically neglected, and
rushed her to a veterinarian.That's where they learned that Tara's starvation had led her
bodily organs to begin shutting down. When trying to feed the dog, she would eagerly eat anything put in front of her. But because her organs were already preparing for death,
she couldn't digest anything - she would either immediately begin vomiting or pooping.
A specialized veterinarian team was able to save Tara and nurse her back to health. When they first assessed her, they apparently rated her as so unhealthy, she was only ranked "1" on a health scale of 1 to 9. Fortunately, she is recovering and is even gaining weight.
The original pair who adopted her have been arrested on animal cruelty charges.
But the most important thing is - they should never be able to adopt, take care of, or live with an animal ever again in the future. Not only did they starve Tara to the brink of death, but they blamed her and ignored her needs.
