Stop El Salvador's Complete Abortion Ban!
Millions of women in El Salvador are at risk because the country forbids abortion without exception, even when the mother's life is in danger. Even in cases of rape and incest, women must carry their pregnancies to term or face lengthy jail sentences.
The complete abortion ban forces women to pursue dangerous black-market or do-it-yourself abortions. Of course, these abortions lead to health emergencies that are viewed with suspicion. Women have been sent to jail for up to 40 years for the crime of "induced abortion," even when these abortions are their only chance to survive a risky pregnancy.
Women should not be forced to submit to injury and death by carrying out a risky pregnancy. They should not be forced to endure the emotional pain of carrying a rapist's child to term, or to give birth to a child conceived through incest. Please sign the petition to urge the El Salvador Legislative Assembly to change abortion laws to allow abortions in cases of rape, incest, or risk to mother or child.
