Remove Live Octopus Off of Restaurant Menus

The Octopus is actually an intelligent animal of the seas that is terribly misunderstood by most people unfamiliar with their characteristics.  They are said to be inquisitive, playful and resourceful. The Octopus is an invertebrate with short and long-term memories, and smart beyond our imagination.  You can read more about this mysterious habitant of the seas at http://www.peta.org/blog/video-octopus-stabbed-and-eaten-while-still-alive/

One of the concerns regarding the Octopus is its inclusion on the menu at various restaurants nationwide. What most people do not realize is some of the dangers that this animal encounters when considered a food source for human consumption. Many do not realize that they do indeed feel extreme pain and in some countries they are tortured first and then eaten alive!  Often times, the octopus is chopped up while still living and breathing, feeling every bit of the pain.  This is extremely barbaric to have these highly intelligent animals subjected to such cruel practices.

Our efforts in this petition is to encourage authorities of the National Restaurant Association to remove the octopus from their menus as we fully support this initiative by PETA and their wonderful work.  You can help us with this endeavor by signing and sharing this petition.  Let us be a voice to put an end to the abuse of any animal, including the intelligent and fragile octopus.

National Restaurant Association President and CEO Dawn Sweeney – We strongly urge you to remove Octopus from any and all of your menus nationwide and stop the horrific abuse of these animals that are so highly intelligent and necessary for the waters that they live in and the environment.
