The NWLSD board has been ask to give direction to admin before June by settling on realignment option 1a, or redrawing the line option 1c for attendance at Northwestern and Weisenberg elementary schools. Option 1a will cause all kindergarten to third grade students from our 110 quare mile district to be bussed to Weisenberg at our southern most border, and all our 4th and 5th graders to be bussed to Northwestern elementary. SAFE Transportation of our children, a split of parent resources and unreasonable travel times for our youngest students are serious cause for alarm. We are asking the school board to select option 1c A for the 2019 2020 school year and then hire a firm to evaluate Northwestern Middle school for an expansion allowing no less than a 1000 capacity and ultimately have a 5/6 and 7/8 "wing" at Northwestern Middle school. This will eliminate the strain on the 600 capacity Northwestern elementary while allowing specials and intervention the space they require at both Northwestern Elementary and Northwestern Middle schools, and should prevent any future line modifications.
