I have read about dog "culls" that have been going on in Baghdad. Guns have been used to shoot dogs, sometimes (apparently) causing a painful death for the dogs. Meat laced with strichnine has been used to poison dogs. One of the veterinarians responsible has even said that they have mercy for all animals! How can anyone claim to have mercy for animals when they poison them, especially when there are alternatives, such as spaying/neutering and vaccinations?
The dogs are being "culled" to prevent diseases from being transmitted to humans, and to prevent attacks on humans. However, alternatives such as spaying and neutering and vaccinations exist and have been successful in other countries, if I am correct. Another alternative would be to advise and allow the people to carry safe self-defence sprays. These self-defence sprays could be distributed by the government and given freely to the people of Iraq. If pepper sprays and/or other sprays that could hurt the dogs (without harming them) were to be used, people could be required by law to only use them in self-defence or in defence of others. Even if these sprays do hurt the dogs for a few minutes, this would be better than unnecessary killing.
Please stop the dog "culls" in Iraq. Thank you.
