A Young Dog Named Rosie Suffered for Months Before Losing Her Leg. This Shouldn't Have Happened.

Rosie the Australian shepherd collie mix should have been running, playing, and enjoying life. Instead, the one-year-old dog reportedly spent more than two months living with a horrific leg injury after it was caught in a sawmill belt. By the time she was finally surrendered to authorities, the damage was so severe that veterinarians had no choice but to amputate her leg. Thankfully, Rosie survived. But no animal should ever have to endure that kind of prolonged suffering.

Sign the petition to demand a lifetime ban on animal ownership and mandatory mental health counseling if the accused is convicted.

Before Rosie was rescued, multiple people reported concerns about her condition. Investigators eventually gained custody of the dog after the owner allegedly refused to allow animal control officers to examine her. When shelter staff finally saw Rosie, they were horrified.

She was rushed to a veterinary hospital, where her leg had to be amputated. Thanks to generous donations from the public, Rosie received the lifesaving surgery she desperately needed and is now recovering. She has already attracted numerous adoption applications from people eager to give her the loving home she deserves.

Mandatory mental health counseling can help address underlying issues that contribute to severe neglect, while a lifetime ban on animal ownership can help ensure vulnerable animals are never placed in the same situation again.

The goal should not only be justice for Rosie, but prevention for every animal that could otherwise become the next victim.

Sign the petition now to urge prosecutors and the court to pursue a lifetime ban on animal ownership and mandatory mental health counseling if a conviction is secured.
