Londis: pay 15-year-old worker Jay El-Leboudy fairly

15-year-old Jay El-Leboudy recently finished ten weeks of work at his local Londis store only to be told he would not be payed for most of his work. Sign this petition to ask Londis to pay Jay the Under 18 National Minimum Wage of £3.70 per hour, and to commit to giving all young workers the Under 18 National Minimum Wage.

"He was hoping to have his money in time to buy Christmas presents." Jay's Mum Zoe Buckwell arranged the position for Jay with her friend, the manager of the Londis shop. She was hoping it would lead to ongoing part-time work. But Jay only received pay after his first two weeks of work, and after another eight was informed that he had been working as an unpaid intern.

The public has since stepped up and raised over £2,000 for Jay. Jay donated this money to charity, choosing to spend much of it on buying Christmas presents for children in Great Ormond Street Hospital, the hospital which treated him as a baby. The remainder is being donated to Catching Lives, a homelessness charity.

Now Londis needs to respond, and pay its young workers, including Jay, fairly. There is no legal minimum wage for fifteen year olds, but there is an Under 18 National Minimum Wage which can be used as guideline. Any employer that values its employees needs to pay them fairly.

Tell Londis that nobody should be working unpaid, and that all its young workers under the age of 18 deserve the Under 18 National Minimum Wage of £3.70 per hour.
