Vote NO to Project Jupiter! A proposed new warehouse located at 143rd and Steiner in Plainfield, which would welcome HUNDREDS of semi-trucks per day!

Project Jupiter is a proposal that is being presented to the Village of Plainfield for the 2nd time on August 21st. This project entails Diageo building a 2 million square foot warehouse at the corner of 143rd Street and Steiner Road in Plainfield, IL. The Preliminary Traffic Review for Proposal Industrial Warehouse Development obtained a memo from the potential developer that states it estimates a daily truck volume of 910 trips, including 50 trips per hour during the morning peak period. Averaged over a 24 hour period, the estimated number of trips is 38 per hour (This information is now pending due to Diageo revising their plans. Once we hear the new proposed plan on 9/4/18, we will revise this sentence. If you feel at anytime that you want to remove your signature based on the new numbers from Diageo, you have every right to do so).

There are many reasons that passing this project will be horrific for the residents of Plainfield:
1. Pubic Health: The International Agency for Research on Cancer, classifies diesel engine exhaust as carcinogenic to humans, based on sufficient evidence that exposure is associated with increased risk to lung cancer.
2. Safety: There are a number of schools and children in these residential areas near 143rd Street, where a majority of the trucks will be traveling. The semi-trucks will also cause wear and tear on the roads at an increased rate, making the roads unsafe. Finally, an increase of 1% truck traffic volume results in a disproportionately higher increase in severe crash probability.
3. Comfort: Noise generated by passing truck traffic would exceed OSHA Action Level at Dayfield and Liberty Grove subdivision property lines.
4. Traffic: This project poses a logistical infrastructure challenge as it relates to the roads, highway access and railroad crossings in Plainfield. The Village of Plainfield Transportation Plan states: "To prepare the Village of Plainfield for future growth and meet the challenges of traffic congestion, more work is needed. Plainfield is a rapidly growing, predominately residential community of approximately 39,000 people located in Will and Kendall Counties. This growth, combined with the Village's close proximity to Interstate 55, and three state routes converging through the Village's downtown core, have put a strain on Plainfield's transportation system."

Ways to help STOP this from happening to Plainfield:
1. Sign the petition!
2. Attend the following upcoming meetings: Monday, August 20th at 7pm (Village Board Meeting) and Tuesday, August 21st at 7pm (Plan Commission Meeting) both are at Village Hall in Plainfield.
3. Send emails to planning@goplainfield.com and info@goplainfield.com. Flood their inboxes. They are recording EVERY person's concerns, so we need our ALL our voices to be heard!

We will NOT let them turn Plainfield into a town swarming with semi-trucks!!!

Update #1vor 7 Jahren
Hello, I am updating the title and description of this petition to say HUNDREDS of trucks instead of 900 HUNDRED TRUCKS as it originally states. This is due to Diageo revising their plans. Once we hear the new plan on 9/4/18 at the next village meeting, I may update again. If you feel that you want to delete your signature due to the change that I am making in the title, you may do so. Let's keep this momentum going! They are hearing us!!!
