Stop Spotlight Killing of Coyotes in NC!

To: Wake County Superior Court, North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission

We, the undersigned, are concerned about the recent shooting death of an endangered red wolf as a result of the recent rules regarding nighttime coyote shooting. We understand that North Carolina is home to the world's only population of about 100 red wolves.

We believe that the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission has a duty to protect North Carolina state wildlife. According to Animal Welfare Institute legal associate Tara Zuardo, "The addition of night hunting will result in more red wolf deaths and further damage the recovery effort." Because red wolves and coyotes look similar, it is easy for hunters to mistake one for the other.

North Carolina cannot afford to lose more endangered red wolves in shooting accidents. We respectfully urge you to place a ban on nighttime spotlight shooting in the state. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
