It has come to our attention that Owasso officials are contemplating doing away with our longstanding tradition of holding a Homecoming Parade and instead holding a carnival/fesitival.
Several reasons inlcuding costs and space have been given as catalysts for this change. It's alleged that 1. Home Depot and First Assembly can't accomodate the floats for use of their parking lots and 2. that the money it costs the city to close down the streets has become too costly. It's even been alleged that a small subset of student activity groups have decided this on behalf of the entire district affecting thousands.
The Owasso Homecoming Parade isn't just about lining up and throwing candy, it's not about winning or losing the game on Friday night. It's about PRIDE, COMMUNITY and TRADITION.
Owasso is unique in that every student who attends school in this district is a RAM from K-12th grade. From FOR athletes to our volleyball, tennis, track, golf, baseball, unified etc. you are part of our team, you are a RAM. The Homecoming Parade is an opportunity for us to come together as one and to show our Ram Pride.
For two hours one day a year families both young and old, alumni, future Rams and current students alike line our streets, sing our fight song and celebrate our city as one. Many families can't remember if our team won or lost the actual game but can tell you the theme, what the weather was like, how many people they saw and who we rallied round on any given particular year.
If you feel the same, we ask that you sign this petition and contact school officials in hopes that we can show them that the Homecoming Parade is more than a cost or burden - it is part of who we are, it is TRADITION.
