Sigma Nu, Don't Tolerate Sexual Harassment
It should have been an exciting rite of passage for young women arriving at Old Dominion University to start their college career. But, for some of them, those first minutes on campus were downright frightening. That's because signs hanging from a private Sigma Nu fraternity house said things like "Freshman daughter drop off" and "Hope your baby girl is ready for a good time." Even mothers didn't escape the damage. One sign read "Go ahead and drop Mom off too."
The chapter has been suspended, but that is clearly not enough. Please join with me in asking that the specific men involved in posting the signs be expelled from the fraternity.
Dear Sigma Nu:
We the undersigned are dismayed, to say the least, that a house, where your members live, displayed sexually harassing signs aimed at incoming female freshmen at Old Dominion University. We understand that the Old Dominion Sigma Nu chapter has been suspended, and we thank you for that. However, we feel you have not gone far enough. A temporary suspension does not send a strong enough message that you do not intend to participate in or tolerate sexual harassment. Please expel the specific members responsible for the signs from your fraternity.
