Demand the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center Be Shut Down Immediately

I'm starting this petition in response to the revealing New York Times article by Michael Moss, published on Jan. 19, 2015. If you have not already read it, please see the following link: Animal Welfare at Risk in Experiments for Meat Industry

I find this story troubling on so many levels that it is difficult to find a place to begin. Have we sunk so low in our humanity that we no longer have empathy for other living creatures? Do we no longer feel? Or is it perhaps that we see animals used for consumption as "things" unworthy of our concern or care? When you can arrange and allow the brutal rape of a young cow to her death, or when you can turn a blind eye to the cries of a starving lamb, you have indeed lost your soul. And so have we all if we stand by and do nothing, allowing our tax money to be used in the torture of these beautiful and innocent creatures.

So, I appeal to you. Please shut down the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center immediately. There is no excuse for these heartbreaking and appalling acts of barbarism.
