Our Alberta Government Social Programs are being exploited by EPCOR! Their policies and practices for customers negotiationg payment arrangements and disconnection cancelations/options (limiter) are unreasonable and discriminatory. EPCOR should is using social programs (income support) as an excuse NOT to provide reasonable arrangements for their customers. Past use of social programs result in the elimination of credit worthiness for the customer. The Alberta Government must ensure the privacy of their Citizens who are accessing this program, EPCOR should have no right to this information! My recent interactions with EPCOR have been overwhelmingly abusive and intrusive. It is unreasonable for a corporation to deny anyone approval for a payment arrangement with them because a Government Social Program is available to the public who qualify. They are not a government agency and should not be telling customers that the government will pay my bill in full, therefore they must use it. I have been supporting my family with disability insurance as a result of my car accident. I do not qualify for income support. I know the system, and have verified what I qualify for. I have used this program in the past and repayment to the government is mandatory so it is not a free. I have worked through all levels of EPCOR Customer Service resulting with the same response, this is their approved corporate practice for collections. EPCOR's actions burden income support programs and will exaust them.
I ask you to show your support to PUBLICLY FORCE EPCOR to CHANGE and applicable Alberta Government Offices to Act!
Thank You,

Dear EPCOR
This Petition has been presented to vastly improve your current policies and practises available to your customers who are experiencing hardship and financial limitations. Current option forced upon your customers for payment is to access government supplied assistance. A large corporation should not be relying on government resources when they are capable of providing financing and power reduction equipment. (Limiter) Current policy in place at EPCOR, only allow limiters to only be used during winter months. This option should be available year long. Treatment of Customers with financial hardships must be without prejudice and affordable payment options should be available. Being directed to access social programs should not be practiced at all. Reference to previous assistance with Government assistance should not be accessible to EPCOR and NOT be used as a reason to deny payment arrangements.
The public and your customers have voiced their support for EPCOR to demonstrate Corporate Accountability by signing this petition. The information gathered in this campaign will be shared with the Alberta Consumers Advocate to ensure appropriate corrections to your policies and practices are acceptable and implemented immediately.
Sincerely,
Cindy Sparks
