There is currently an acute shortage of suitable student accommodations in Hastings.

Students from Sussex Coast College Hastings and from the Hastings’ campus of Brighton University are leaving Hastings in dove due to the lack of suitable student accommodations in the centre of Hastings.

Hastings Borough Council seems reluctant to approve HMO planning applications from private landlords aiming to convert huge townhouses into modern bedsits which will provide at long last quality student accommodations at very good price in excellent locations. (e.g. HMO planning applications in Linton road, TN34 1TN).

As an example the Linton road residents are currently petitioning the Hastings Borough Council to prevent these huge townhouses to be transformed into needed student accommodations and would rather that these huge 200 meters square properties stay occupied by a single family. Such usage of these huge properties appears very selfish in light of the acute shortage of suitable student accommodations in Hastings.

Please sign this petition to express to Hastings Borough Council the people's desire to increase the number of student accommodations located in the centre of Hastings and prevent the current student population deserting Hastings to search for suitable student accommodations in other cities.
