Save Monarch Butterflies!

Monarch butterflies used to grace the meadows of North America in huge flocks, but today it can be hard to spot a monarch. That's because the butterfly's numbers have plummeted eighty percent in the past twenty years.

So why is the United States Fish and Wildlife Service dragging its heels on listing the monarch butterfly as a threatened species? The service has failed to conduct the twelve month review that is required for listing the species as threatened. The time to save monarchs is now. Further delays may result in total extinction of this beautiful butterfly. Please join me in asking the USFWS to immediately conduct the twelve month review and move the monarch toward an officially threatened status.

To the United States Fish and Wildlife Service:

We the undersigned are amazed by the monarch butterfly and its heroic annual migration. Unfortunately, human expansion has been hard on the monarch. Its most important food source, milkweed, has been plowed under for housing developments and industry. You have an opportunity to save this species however. It appears that you have not yet conducted the twelve month review that is preliminary to listing the monarch as a threatened species. Please move to publish this review with all speed. The time to save monarchs is now, not when they are all but extinct.
