In 1990, Nine people managed to shutdown our local racetrack that was located at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds in Warsaw Indiana. A lot of revenue was lost when this happened. Not only did the fairgrounds suffer but the community lost money. Many people traveled to this race track from other counties and states just to race. This included NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon, racing sprint cars. The track was removed and sat vacant for 25 years with no racing. They brought in concerts and different things to raise money but it never brought in the kind of money that the racetrack did. Even the fair brought in was not as good so people quit going to that. This racetrack is located on the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds directly on Winona Lake. It was voted one of the most beautiful racetracks in the country. This was a bad decision made 28 years ago by the judge who allowed this to happen. People have enjoyed the few races that are running now at the track. It is not a full schedule and it is not full size cars. We want the sprint cars and the big cars back! We want a full race schedule! WE WANT OUR WARSAW SPEEDWAY BACK! Kids and families do not have a lot to do in this county now and drugs are taking the lives of many young kids. The 4-H fair keeps kids involved. Now four people on the lake decided to file a lawsuit once again to have the track shut down. We are fighting back this time! Warsaw has grown so much in the past 28 years. People still love racing and it has grown even more. If this lawsuit goes thru and the judge chooses once again to ban racing, then the whole fairgrounds is in jeopardy. We will then lose the 4-H fair all together. This is the only place available to have big events in the county. We do not have the option to move it as it will cost way too much money. This is the track that USAC driver Tony Elliott got his start as well as Bimbo Atkins. Both drivers are deceased now. That makes this personal for me as well as many others who stand behind it.
