My dog was taken from my family because, my neighbor didn't shut our gate!

My dog Oreo, a Great Dane, my dad and I rescued when I was sixteen, and now he is being taken away from me because, I was at a new collage, and my neighbors were watching him, and forgot to close the gate. Now he is at animal control and we can't keep him because we don't have his papers, and they think we wanted to abandon him!
