Hello everyone, on November 28th my sister suffered from a stroke caused by a congenital abnormality known as an AVM. This brain injury caused her to be in a hospital 2 hours from home for a month. She is able to move her arms, legs, and head to some degree but she is still very weak and unable to speak properly. This may be due to her biting her tongue severely during her craniotomy, but she also had a tracheostomy performed on her which they have included a speaking valve for her to use.
Alexa has been back home since December 29th of 2015 at Vibra Hospital. She was sent to Community rehab hospital on January 25th of 2016. She has made huge strides and improvements in only her first week there. The only reason I am petitioning for her to go to Shepherd Center in Atlanta is because we have just recently heard that our insurance is not wanting to pay for her to be able to go to Community rehab anymore, they are wanting to send her to a nursing home. This would ultimately be the worst choice for her because she will not get any better since they are not a rehabilitation hospital that would suit her needs. She needs some of the best help to get her back to where she was before this terrible event occurred. She is only 21 years old and has so much life left to live. Please help my family and I out and sign this to hopefully be able to send her to Shepherd Center.
