Save Pigs From Brutal Medical Procedures

University of South Carolina's emergency medicine residency program continues to operate on and destroy pigs when viable alternatives are available. According to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the medical arm of the university cuts holes in the pigs' throats and chests while they are still alive.

And it's not just soft-hearted liberals who are concerned. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine believes the treatment of pigs at South Carolina violates the Animal Welfare Act. Please join me in asking the United States Department of Agriculture to investigate the University of South Carolina's use of live pigs.

Dear USDA:

I am deeply concerned that the use of live pigs in the University of South Carolina's medical program is unnecessarily cruel. We no longer live in the Victorian age. Other ways of teaching medicine are available. There is reason to be concerned when even the university's fellow doctors are worried that the pigs are mistreated. The Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine has asked you to investigate and, as needed, intervene. I am writing today to support that request. Please look into the use of live pigs at University of South Carolina.
