Stop Eminent Domain/Condemnation of Lake Street Parcel by Patchogue Village for Suffolk County

To the Board of Trustees of the Village of Patchogue:

We, the undersigned, are residents and/or property owners of the Village of Patchogue and Patchogue, in Suffolk County, New York. We object to and oppose the proposed condemnation and development of the property located at intersection of Patchogue-Holbrook Road (CR 19) and Lake Street, known as SCTM: 0204-009.00-05.00-027.001, near “the Spur”, for the purposes of a rapid transit bus drop-off and pick-up station, traffic circle and municipal parking lot.

*The proposed project is not in character with the needs or nature of the Village and Patchogue communities.

*The proposed development is not part of a comprehensive land use plan or master plan. This type of development should NOT be done on a piecemeal basis.

*The proposed development is part of Suffolk County Plan to create a rapid transfer “bus hub” between Patchogue Village & Stony Brook College. The bus route will be along Nicolls Road.

*The proposed development will only serve to congest Village and Patchogue streets by bringing in MORE outside traffic and vehicles seeking parking to use the rapid transit bus to connect to locations outside Patchogue. This hub will have no actual benefit to the businesses in the Village, Patchogue and/or its residents.

*Safety Concerns for proposed traffic circle: The use of and maneuvering within a traffic circle is not widely understood by motorists and non-motorists.

*Lack of Public Notice: Local residents did NOT receive adequate notice of the hearing on September 25, 2017. Therefore, the project should not be approved.
