Canada is blessed with many things. Perhaps its best assets are the vast, undeveloped forests that stretch up to the arctic. Canada cannot, however, afford to take this blessing for granted. The country's trees are falling at an alarming pace as timber merchants check their bottom line rather than the planet's health.
A number of environmental groups are lobbying for the conservation of at least half of Canada's boreal forest. This would involve creating one of the largest conservation zones in the world.
It's the right thing to do. Please join me in asking the Parliament of Canada to set aside half or more of its boreal forests in a conservation easement.
Dear Parliament Members:
Canada's boreal forests are a treasure, and they deserve to be protected from development and logging. Trees serve a number of purposes. They are, of course, beautiful. They also absorb rainfall and prevent flooding. They create shade, and they even lower the temperature of the region. You need to take action to protect this fine asset. Please put half or more of your forests in a conservation easement.
