Guatemalan Lawyers and Notaries, don't violate the constitution!

Judge Yassmin Barrios sentenced General Efraín Montt to 80 years in prison in May 2013 for massacring 1771 indigenous Ixil peasants. Now the College of Lawyers and Notaries of Guatemala (CANG) has sanctioned the judge. CANG says she “disrespected” Moisés Galindo, defender of General Rios Montt, during his trial for genocide. CANG has suspended Juge Barrios for one year, fined her a considerable amount (for Guatemalan standards) and is pubishing reprimands in the media.

Article 203 of the constitution states that "(...) the magistrates and judges are independent in the exercise of its functions and subject only to the constitution and laws (...) and no other authority can intervene in the administration of justice. " CANG's resolution violates constitutional principles.
