Make it illegal to leave dogs in hot cars, UK

Save a dog's life: Make it illegal to leave dogs in hot cars in the UK!

1 in 4 dog owners in the UK have admitted to leaving their pets unattended in cars, according to the charity Dogs Trust. Almost half think their dog will be fine if they park their car under a tree or leave a window open -- but in reality, a dog left in a hot car can die in just 20 minutes if its body temperature rises above 41°C.

Under Section 9 of the Animal Welfare Act of 2006, people have a "duty of care" to act reasonably to meet the welfare needs of their animals and prevent suffering. An owner or caregiver can be prosecuted for neglect or cruelty and face jail time.

We need to extend the law and make it illegal to leave dogs in hot cars in the UK. People love their family pets. But clearly extra measures are needed to keep them safe. Dogs cannot cool down as effectively as humans -- we need to do everything we can to protect them in the upcoming summer months.

Tell David Cameron, leaving dogs in hot cars in the UK should be illegal!
