HELP ALI! 18 year-old afghan boy is being sent back to Italy from Sweden

Ali is a 18-year-old boy from Afghanistan who came to Sweden through Italy a couple of years ago, and after nine months in Sweden he recieved a permanent residence permit. Italy was the first European country Ali came to, after travelling through many others. It was a country where was beaten by the border police and raped by three men in a refuggee camp - by the age of 11. Now his greatest nightmare has come true: he has been carried out back to Italy by the Swedish border police, secretly, just a couple of days before he was going to be able to remake his asylum application in Sweden. Right now he is alone, has no money and does not know what is happening, as he does not speak neither English nor Italian. And as if it wasn't enough that he doesn't want to live anymore, there is now a risk for him being detained in Italy for eighteen months, while he will not be allowed to have any contact with the outside world.

Ali is a 18 year-old boy from Afghanistan who by the age of 11 fled his country after that his father, who worked as an interpreter for the American Army was murdered by the Taliban. After about one year on the run -without passport and money- through Greece, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey and lastly Italy he reached Sweden. After nine months in Sweden he received a permanent residence permit and he has been living with his foster mother until now. He goes to school, has made friends, a girlfriend, composes music and plays football like any other teenager. But now the Swedish Border Police has sent him back to Italy - Ali's greatest nightmare.

In Italy Ali was beaten by the police and raped by three men in a refugee camp. Before he even reached to Italy he had to go through many other also traumatizing incidents, but he has not told exactly what happened as it was too difficult to talk about. Some days ago after that he received his first deportation order (in Sweden) he sewed up his mouth and stuck a knife into his belly. I'm not going back there alive, he said. It was probably a symbolic act to show his deversion for going back to Italy, and desperate need to stay here in Sweden. He has a several times tried to take his own life, and he is severely traumatized, so severely that he was being treated at the Emergency Department of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Ali's asylum application has been rejected by all courts in Sweden but the Swedisn Migration Board wanted to have a look at the case again, because of the Ali's poor health. But the Border Police said no and still planned to carry Ali out back to Italy, which was their mission. This is because of the so called Dublin Regulation that says that the asylum procedure is to be done in the first European country one comes to - which in Ali's case was Italy.

Now, I feel so sad to say this, but now he is in Rhome - Italy. A country in where he is completely alone, does not have any money and where he does not understand the language. He was secretly being deported without that his contact person -Sofia Hansson- and anyone, really, got to know about it. The first flight he was supposed to "travel" by never lifted thanks to many protesters who begged the staff on the airplane not to lift with Ali onboard, which was what happened. Ali also protested with both tears and words. But, as said, then he was instead some day later secretly being carried out to Italy.

At the airport of Rome Ali was dumped of the Swedish police officers between two border controls. There he was arrested by the Italian border police, who told him things in Italian - he couldn't understand one word.

He is at the moment released, though, and still has contact with his contact person and friend Sofia Hansson, as he is allowed to make calls. And two of his friends managed to follow him to Rome. But he may not have access to any interpreter -the police officers who took him to Italy did not manage any interpreter for him- so he does not understand what is happening.

And now there is a risk for him being detained in Italy for eighteen months, while he will not be allowed to have any kind of contact with the outside world. Sofia Hansson says they have people in Italy who are going to try to help Ali.

A petition is not really to much help compared to what other people, the Swedish Migration Board, Amnesty International, Ali's special representative -Annette Cromnell- and Sofia Hansson have done, but maybe, only maybe, this can make a difference if as many as possible sign this and contribute with something. I know the chance is small, but it is worth to try.

But as said, to be able to make a difference as many as possible have to hear about this and sign it. So, please, pass it on to as many as you can and spread the word about helping Ali!

Together we can make a difference!
