Save our hedgehogs and other beloved UK wildlife

Our beloved hedgehogs are in serious decline, along with many other UK wildlife species, a worrying government report has found. The official assessment of UK environmental health found that 75% of 200 UK “priority” species are dropping in numbers. It is not only hedgehogs that need our protection. Birds, moths, butterflies and dormice populations are all dwindling.

The Conservatives manifesto pledge promised a comprehensive 25-year environmental plan. The plan was set to address not only species decline, but other key issues such as air pollution and flood damage. This urgently needed plan has now been postponed following Brexit, and some have expressed concern that the pledge will never be fulfilled.

Please sign this petition to demand that the Conservative's promised 25-year plan for the environment be drawn up and passed into law by 2017.

Christine Reid of the Woodland Trust said: “It’s hard to be positive about the state of our wildlife when reading these figures, which is why we need government to deliver a 25-year plan for the environment which can truly enable positive change.” This plan is vitally needed if we want to protect our native species.

Please sign this petition to demand a plan for the environment, and to let the government know that caring for our precious and irreplaceable wildlife is a responsibility we will hold them to.
