In an effort to reduce the past discrimination of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Equality California has made moves to protect LGBT veterans and military families.
Under EQCA's proposed bill, AB 1505, California military members who were discharged solely on the basis of their sexual orientation during the enforcement of Don't Ask, Don't Tell will become eligible for all the state benefits provided to veterans.
These benefits strongly increase the quality of life for service members and their families and can include home loans, college tuition fee waivers and preference for civil service examinations.
Congress has ended the injustice and emotional and financial suffering of the Don't Ask, Don't Tell military policy. However, it has yet to provide veterans' services to the men and women who were discharged under this policy. This bill must pass in order to counteract the oppressive harm inflicted by Don't Ask Don't Tell.
Tell the California State Senate: Pass AB 1505 today!
We the undersigned urge you to state your support for AB 1505.
The bill will ensure that military families will receive the benefits they deserve if military officers and soldiers were discharged due to Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
The state of California must do all it can to counteract the oppressive policy and seek full equality for the LGBT community and their families.
As these service members support the United States, the United State must at very least show the utmost respect and appreciation for their service.
Please support AB 1505 to protect LGBT service members and their families.
