We, the undersigned, oppose the incessant overdevelopment which has become a threat to the quality of life we have always enjoyed in our communities up and down the Palisades.
This overdevelopment has resulted in:
A crisis in public transportation, jammed standing room only busses- especially difficult for the elderly or physically disabled- and slow, uncomfortable, and less than professionally administered jitneys which clog our streets.
A crisis up and down The Palisades with respect to parking.
Dramatic and unsustainable increases in traffic: a clear danger to emergency vehicles of all kinds. Cars, NJ Transit busses, and jitneys jam our streets, pollute our environment with exhaust fumes and noise.
Hi-rises which ruin views of NYC and the river, and destroy the character of our towns.
We, the undersigned, join together to preserve and protect for ourselves, our children, and for future generations that which is truly valuable along the Palisades and becomes even more so every day: our views, our space, our light, ease of commuting due to proximity to NYC- an easier and quieter lifestyle, and one which has been largely lost in NYC due to the strangulation of much of the city by hi-rises.
We, the undersigned, join together in the fight to preserve the quality of life we've always enjoyed here on the Palisades.
We, the undersigned, oppose the development known as "Meridia Le Boulevard" proposed for the corner of 67th and Boulevard East in West New York, which is a clear threat to the lifestyle we have joined together to preserve for the following reasons and more: This development
(a) will dump perhaps as many as an additional 100 cars daily to our overcrowded streets where parking for the existing population is already grossly inadequate, while at the same time removing significant and valuable parking spaces for local residents.
(b) is ill-conceived as demonstrated by the developer's request for twenty or so variances from local housing and building regulation.
(c) will be at the narrowest point along all of Boulevard East creating a danger for emergency vehicles of all sorts and an impediment to traffic in general.
(d) will add as many as 200 new commuters daily to a transportation system in obvious crisis.
(e) will cast neighboring buildings including Halifax Hall, The Versailles and others in shadow and destroy the view residents of these buildings have enjoyed since, in the case of Halifax Hall, 1906.
(f) will not conform to the look and feel of the rest of our area, and thus is being proposed in stark opposition to community standards- the proposed development would give rise to the first cluster of hi-rises in any area, would be the first time two hi-rises would be allowed to exist facing directly one into another, creating a dark canyon where there was formerly light and space. (g) will contribute significantly to the pollution of our area in terms of vehicle exhaust, traffic noise, sewage, etc.
We petition you as our elected representatives to decide this matter in favor of the best interests of the people who elected you and vote no on the "Meridia Le Boulevard". development
