Restore the Animal Welfare Act

House bill (HR 6693) introduced  by Congressman Gerald Connolly (D-VA) of the House of Representatives Animal Protection Caucus to restore the original scope of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA).

This bill would reverse a Senate amendment to the 2002 Farm Bill pushed through by Senator Jesse Helms (R-NC), which gutted the AWA and removed protection for 95% of animals used in research.

Restoring the original Animal Welfare Act will protect rats, mice, and birds will eliminate poorly conducted scientific experiments and testing. This will improve science, bolster the economy in the long-term, and stop taxpayers from funding wasteful research.

Please contact your Senators and tell them  to support House bill (HR 6693) restore the original scope of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA).
